Zenithink ZT-180 1204 Firmware
Here is the latest 1204 update. It includes Burn Tool exe, USB Drivers & Firmware. Users are reporting a decent speed increase in this update. Please pay close attention to the new flash instructions!!!
Changelog:
- New flash mode for TF (MicroSD) card
- New features for Factory Reset mode
- New features for ADB mode
- New language added (Hebrew)
Note: If you have only flashed your tablet using burntool-v07.2 then you can only use the USB flash mode below. Once you have flashed using the new burntool (located in the new firmware) you will be able to use the TF mode for any future firmware upgrades.
**Attention**: This firmware contains an SPL upgrade which means you may brick your tablet if you lose power while flashing. Ensure you have the power connected whenever you update firmware. Also, after doing this upgrade you will not be able to revert back to older firmwares.
For flashing via USB:
Step 1: Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7954477/ZT-180_1204fw.rar
Mirror: http://www.filedropper.com/zt-1801204fw
Mirror 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?a2i8kwv4tbnby7b
Step 2: Extract the rar file and go into the folder
Step 3: Locate the correct zImage file as per your tablet version and screen resolution. Models built before Aug 15 use 1024×576. Once you know which file suits your tablet, rename it to zImage (ie. Right click & rename from zImage_1024x576 or zImage_1024x600 to zImage).
Step 4: Run Burntool.exe (Note: With this version there is no need to go to Settings. As long as all the files are in the same directory as burntool, it will locate the necessary files)
Step 5: With the tablet turned off, connect it to your computer using the mini-USB port
Step 6: On the tablet, hold down the Menu button and then press the Power button
Step 7: The first status box in burntool should light up green.
Note: If this is the first time connecting the tablet to your PC you will need to install the included USB drivers
Step 8: Click start to commence update. Disconnect cable once complete and press the Home button
For flashing via TF (MicroSD) card:
Step 1: Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?zsuhr5vrr69nlyp
Mirror: http://www.filedropper.com/zt-update
Step 2: Copy the “zt-update” folder to the root of the TF card (This folder should have these files: zImage, system.pack.img and user.pack.img)
Note: Follow step 3 above to ensure you are using the correct zimage file
Step 3: Insert the TF card into TF card slot
Step 4: Press the Menu button (The menu key is the last long key on the top of tablet) & Power button at the same time
Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions
Step 6: Once firmware is updated, the tablet will automatically restart

Fantastic service you are providing Beau, lovely clear instructions
Couple questions:
1. Does this f/w address the Microphone problems?
2. The SD Card upgrade says to “Press the Menu button (The menu key is the last long key on the top of tablet) & Power” Don’t have the Unit with me right now, but I thought you had to press the hardware button, right side of the front screen & Power button to connect to PC or Flash from SD Card??
@Eddy
Hi Eddy, I am fairly sure that the poor sound quality of the mic recording is hardware related. I have had a 20 different firmwares and all manners of software and never has it really been useable. Interestingly I have 5 our epad devices each a different model (yep must be mad) and it is universal to all of them.
And yes, power button plus back button on front of device to access flash mode has always been the way for my ZT180.
Thanks Davidr for your reply
That’s a pity, I was hoping this upgrade fixed the Mic problems, after reading some time ago how someone took a unit apart and stated he thought it might be software related because the components stacked up OK
Do you also know if the “Easy Root & tx Power Fix” is also required after this upgrade?
I bought my ZT mainly in order to use it in boat for navigation. I installed 1204 firmware succesfully from this site and hoped it will support the USB-GPS-dongle, but it seems not. Is there anything to do, or just wait if the next update will fix this?
I’ve been trying to update my zt from the 1030 to 1204, but have been unsuccessful. I’ve saved the rar file and extracted everything to a single folder. I’ve renamed the zimage file. When I open the Burntool and connect up the zt to my laptop via USB, the first box in the Burntool goes green. However the upload consistently fails. Is anyone doing anything in addition to what the instructions say? When I check the settings, none of the boxes are checked. To my understanding, the script for this Burntool version automatically selects the proper files.
I found my answer and successfully flashed the unit to 1204 firmware. In the Burntool settings, check the following boxes and set the following parameters:
uboot-spl – ZT_Bx.spl
uboot-img – ZT_Bx.boot
linux-kernel – zImage
linux-sys – system.pack.img
linux-udat – userdata.pack.img
1. Fire up the burntool and adjust the Settings / Configure for the items you want to use.
2. Unmount & remove SD card.
3. Shutdown tablet.
4. Connect external power. You don’t want to lose power during the flash process.
5. Connect tablet to PC via USB cord.
6. Press & hold big round button on face of tablet while turning power on. You should get an immediate indication of the connection on the burntool with a green status square, indicating that the tablet is ready to flash. If not, check to see that device shows in Device Manager. If it doesn’t show with device operating properly, unistall and reinstall the driver.
7. Click on burntool Start button to begin the process.
8. Wait for the flash process to complete. You should get messages on both burntool and tablet during the process.
9. Remove USB cable.
10. Reinstall SD card. Should mount automatically.
Also check the Memory Options – scrub (for a clean install)
I found these instructions on:

@Shawn
Hello, i’m having the same issuses. one of them is the operating system you used, I have xp, vista and 7 which one did you use to update your epad??? Help.. Thanks..
Just wanted to say thanks.. had a customers epad that was stuck at “ANDROID_” and wouldn’t load. These instructions worked great and my customer is now back in business!
FYI for others.. Win7 x64 didn’t work because the USB drivers are incompatible. I used Windows XP SP3 32 bit.
did the tf flash. booted tablet( power button and long button on top) screen reads No zImage_update
Hi all!
I just want to upgrade my ZT-180v2 via TF card method.
I downloaded the latest firmwares, i copy the “zt-update” folder to the memory card (/mnt/sdard). After all, i restarted the tablet and i pressed the buttons. The TF card update mod was on my screen. This is ok.
But. The message isnt. The screen gave it to me this msg: “No zImage_update”.
I tried everything. I read mans, forums, wikis, offical issues. I have the all of update files and I cant upgrade my ZT-180v2.
Can u help me solve this problem?
ps.: sry for my bad eng. :/
@Joseph G.
Hi Joseph,
I am no expert on this and I have been having issues re-flashing my device as well. With regards to your problem, my understanding is that you will need to upgrade via USB using the Burntool for this upgrade. Any upgrades after this will be able to be done via the TF card. Be really careful!!!!!! It is very easy to kill the device completely if the wrong files are loaded.
Hope this helps.
THe drivers still do not work on x64 bit systems (windows 7). So I cannot update the drivers.
Hi All, Just wanted to thank you for all the info, however, no matter what I do to boot into recovery mode, NOTHING works!!!! I have rooted the Droid, Droid X and Droid 2 with no issues, so I am aware of the process, but either way (long button on top) or menu button on front, neither one will boot into recovery mode. I’ve downloaded Burntool 7.41 and connected my device (which lists as an HTC Dream-not sure why it comes over as that) and it doesn’t recognize the device. Deleted device and drivers, and tried to reinstall with the Windows drivers provided with burntool, and still no luck, what am I doing wrong, or is this ZT180 not able to be upgraded? Thanks
Hi, you guys are doing great things to relieve people stress. I did mine it worked wonderful. The challenge I have now is that the WinCE I downloaded does not have tools and its beeen difficult to install any exec application on it. It reports “the setup is not a valid windows CE application”. And I tried to download another winCE, this one is motionless. Touch screen not responding. So, what do I do. PLS I STILL NEED YOUR HELP TO COMPLETE TASK.
Thanks
Actually, I updated to dual but lost my Android section. Pls tell me the remedy. I need your help
Thanks so much. After much trial, I succeeded, but my screen is ugly. Having poor dysfunctional resolution.
It is so ugly. What do I do?
It starts well when boot but when its time to display; it will first show two lines then the usual centred andoids sign will move one side, by the time it finished booting. It will be a poor unreadable display. heeeeeeeeeelp pls
Its a pity I have got no response since I sought for help to redeem my ZT-180. Let me explain better, may someone will respond now.
I have used two different Firmware to flash it- “zt-update1204″ which after booting alway stop at Android Logo and “android_inand_2.2_0125_encry-new_Public” which after booting produces unpleasant screen color.
My suspicion has been may be it was not the approprite zImage I used.
someone pls help out
Hi
Thanks for ur Help, I need to install windows XP with my zt 180 is it possible and how can I do that? would you like to help me to do that.
Thank you very much!!! Your instructions worked immediately. Thanks for taking the time to explain exactly which steps need to be followed. In particular, I had to rename the appropriate zImage576 or 600 file to zImage, the rest was flawless. I had already installed drivers earlier.
