    Thanks for all the online docs on the Zenithink. I’ve got one but it seems eviscerated since I don’t have the ability to install apps or configure more specifically the network settings (i.e. proxy, etc).

    For flashing the new firmware, could you point out a place with some easy-to-understand instructions for making it happen? Do I need to use an SD card or can I do it from a USB-connected PC? And how would one get the PC to recognize the device?

    Thanks for all the great information. However, I have been attempting to flash to 0818 and 0827 with no avail. It appears that XP nor WIN 7 recognizes tablet. Is it possible to post step by step instructions. Any support will be greatly appreciated.

    I need help to install the driver for upgrade my ZT-180

    I was able to install USB drivers on 32bit XP by using the mini usb instead of the standard. Was able to update, but appeared to get error messages and success messages as well. System boots up, but I cant tell the difference from earlier build. Does anyone know how you can tell if the ROM update was truly a success?

    One other question…Can I assume that 0827 has the added features of 0818? I skipped 0818 and 0809 completely.

    For those having trouble with the drivers, ensure you are using the mini usb port. Once selecting the drivers it took a while to actually install them so just leave it for a while. I will try to replicate the problems you are having so I can do a guide. Let me know how you go.

    @Keith Yes, you can skip fw’s :)

    Hello Beau, I try to use mini USB port on my EPAD but I cannot install the driver on Windows XP. I try to use the files that you share but Windows cannot see any driver. It’s my first time that I try to install the driver. Please help me. Thanks

    Thanks for the updates, they worked perfect for me. I put the 8027 update in, i did have problems with overheating of my wifi connection but i did the txt fix, changed it from 100 to 20 and have had no further problems whatsoever. Just want to say thanks And keep up the good work.
    I used windows vista, plugged in the mini usb, it picked up the device but didnt have the drivers. I went to device manager clicked on unknown device, clicked on reinstall drivers, then browsed to the file where i had downloaded the drivers, installed them, now works perfectly.

    One thing I had to do that wasn’t listed in the instructions was hold the power and “back?” button down at the same time to make the device boot as a test board, then the included drivers loaded. XP 32 bit.

    Seems to run a bit better than previously.

    Good to hear it all worked for you! I’ll add those extra instructions in to a how-to-flash guide :)

    Hey –
    0827 working well…Thanks for all….Have one question regarding comment about wifi. What it the txt fix that TOPDOG was referring to? Is this something that all users should update/change….

    Again – Thanks for all the updates. Our friends at Apple should be concerned!

    September 3rd, 2010 at 15:56 | #13

    I’ve got it updated thanks to these instructions. One thing that might be useful is to know that the update tool is written in Chinese so if you want to be able to read the kanji, you might have to change the default encoding for non-unicode programs in the Windows regional and language settings.

    That helped me to follow along with the instructions in the pictures included with the firmware download a little better.

    Hello Beau. Many thanks your guide it’s great!! I have upgrade the firmware to last version. Thanks again for your help.

  15. September 4th, 2010 at 12:02 | #15

    Thanks you for the “how to” – However, I am not able to get the ROM to take. I can upload everything with the burn tool, but when the ePad turns on it just says “ANDROID_” Nit the “_” doesn’t blink like it normally does. Has anyone ran into this issue?

  16. Beau
    September 4th, 2010 at 12:28 | #16

    @Keith Yeah I think thats the same fix. It’s also an option when applying RPMScript.

    @tallthom Thanks for the tip :)

    @NotHans This happened to me also. Hold down the power button for ten seconds and then turn back on. If it continues to do it then you may need to re-flash.

    I can’t get the ROM to burn.
    I followed the instructions booting it up (holding down the menu/back key)
    and it is instantly detected by the burn tool, I configure the paths, then when I start the burn I get an error in the log (see below) and the ePad boots up and ends up at the normal home screen – with all my old icons and settings – so I assume the flash has failed.

    Here is the burn tool output:
    FileLoad! szPathName: C:\ePad\Firmware\ZT-180_0827fw\burn.ini

    @NotHans For some reason my ‘About’ in Settings is not opening. Might need to reflash :\

    @Angelo You could try Skyfire browser.. Not too sure if it works though

    thanks again

    also, do i need to do the “Easy Root & txPower fix on Zenithink ZT-180 ” after i did this update or the update already took care of this?

    thanks again

  25. Beau
    September 13th, 2010 at 10:01 | #25

    @Jun You will need to do this again. If you install RPMScript after flashing it will do it for you.

    I’ve noticed that it doesn’t automatically connect either. You have to turn wifi off then back on in order to connect. Hopefully be fixed in the next update.

    I have just got new Zenthink 180 with Android 2.1 and trying to install Vista Drivers
    I have downloaded secbulk.sys from you (thanks)
    but when I try to install device from driver directory – says Windows cannot find drivers
    Any suggestions ?

  28. Mike Bisson
    September 16th, 2010 at 13:03 | #28

    @jason
    I have the same problem, everything looks like it goes OK in the burn tool, then I reboot the Zenithink, check the version and it still says 0826. I’ve tried this on Vista and XP with no luck. When the drivers were installing, it picked up the test board, but not the android phone. So, android in DM is still showing as not being installed properly, but I get the green light in the burn tool???. I tried reinstalling the drivers and I point to the secbulk.sys file, but it says there isn’t any drivers for my device??? Log shows read/writes during the burn process, but it doesn’t seem to be having any effect on the Zenithink. This all started because I can’t connect to my WEP wifi.

  33. Mike Bisson
    September 18th, 2010 at 11:08 | #33

    @The Milk Man
    That;s the same exact reason I’m trying to flash. As a temporary work-around, I set up an old WIFI AP and configured it as a bridge and open security and restricted WIFI access by mac address. Not an ideal fix, except for at home, but until I can get it flashed, it’s the best I can do at the moment.

    September 18th, 2010 at 11:13 | #34

    Mike Bisson :@Beau It says UpdatePipeState: 0×600000f 6

    after restarting, the tablet still says:

    When I download versions 818 and 827 I get u-boot.img,userdata.img, system.img and zimage with no extension and definately no zimage_cui. I have tried renaming the filen creating a download folder, from the c drive but still cannot get the firmware updated. I have tried this on 3 different computers. I have no trouble with loading the USB drivers and after I load the drivers it identifies that the epad is in burn mode. I am hoping to upgrade the firmware so I can get rid of my WIFI diconnecting when using WER security. If anyone has similar problems please let me know.

    @Milkman,

    Thanks for sharing the 0830 version, I’m looking forward to seeing it released.

    As for yours and Mike’s wifi problems. It is a well known issue that wifi is very bad on the ZT180. have a look at below link.

    http://www.slatedroid.com/zt-180/4310-how-improve-your-wlan.html

    It is a VERY lengthy one, but absolutely worth the read. If you know how to hold a soldering iron, then go for some of the solutions provided. Take the easy way by ordering a usb wifi. But DON’T go for the instructions on adding a simple wire, read the WHOLE thread before doing something as there’s also some misinformation there.

    September 22nd, 2010 at 04:31 | #49

    Just found out.

    The 0830 version is not very interesting as it apparently only contains a new screen driver, since Zenithink switched to a different LCD.

    0830 isn’t an officialy released version. Apparently some units are being shipped with this firmware but the only difference is a display driver or something. I still can’t find the actual firmware files for it.. they aren’t even on the Zenithink website. As soon as an official release is out I’ll upload it :)
