Quick Guide for installing RPMScript 1.2

September 2nd, 2010

Here are some easy steps for installing rpmccormick’s RPMScript 1.2 on fw 0827. If you also want to get the Market working, first you will need to follow this guide for getting an AndroidID.

Step 1: Install and run UniversalAndroot (For detailed steps see Step 1 of Easy Root & txPower fix)

Step 2: Install adbWireless

Step 3: Ensure your wifi is connected and run adbWireless

Note: When adbWireless starts it will look like its enabled, it’s not. Make sure you turn it off by pressing the red button and then turn it back on by pressing the green button. It will now display the tablets IP address and port number. (eg. 192.168.x.x:5555)

Step 4: Download RPMScript1.2 and extract the folder/files to the tools folder of your Android SDK (eg. [install-path]\android-sdk-windows\tools).

Step 5: Navigate to where you extracted RPMScript1.2 (eg. [install-path]\android-sdk-windows\tools\RPM-addon) and run RPMScript.bat.

Note: If you feel confident you can follow the steps on the screen otherwise see steps below

Step 6: Press 2 and then hit Enter. On this screen it was say “Please type the IP of your ZT-180 ePad, then press ENTER”. Enter the IP and port (displayed on the tablet eg. 192.168.x.x:5555). It should now say “connected” – Hit Enter. If not, check that your tablet is still connected to your wifi and try turning adbwireless off then back on.

Step 7: You should now be back at the menu screen. Press 3 and hit Enter. Here you can choose which apps you would like to remove from the system. Most of these are not needed.

Step 8: Press 4 and hit Enter. This will install RPM-Addon SYSTEM (busybox + root + GoogleApps).

Step 9: Press 5 and hit Enter. This will do a quick cleanup by deleting Dalvik-Cache. The device will then reboot.

Note: It may hang on reboot. If so just hold the power button down for 10 seconds and then turn back on.

The steps below are only if you have an AndroidID or wish to make further enhancements.

Step 10: Once your tablet has rebooted, follow Step 3 and then Step 5 & 6 again.

Step 11: If you have an AndroidID or previously generated one, press 6 and hit Enter. On this screen enter your AndroidID and hit Enter.

Step 12: You now have Optional settings you can change. I suggest doing C, E, F, G, H, J, K, N.

Any problems please post below and I will try to help!

    Hi,
    first thank you for all your work.
    I diid every steps for the rpmscript, the device reconize my android id but I can’t login on the market.
    The id is mine from my phone (g1) and I can’t craete one with the avd and sdk manager because when I launch it, it’s going right to the main page and not instalation stuff with the green droid.
    So what can I do?
    Thanks to answer me.

    @olivier Try injecting your AndroidID again and then ensure that when you open up the Market you enter the correct email that corresponds to that ID. You might also want to try MarketEnabler.

    @Michel I’m not sure why the driver doesn’t work for some. I did have trouble to begin with and had to restart and try different ports. The keyboard FC error seems to happen for everyone. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next version. I have the wifi problem also.. it was fixed in the previous fw and seems to have come back :\

    I am stuck at the droid, I can touch it and it highlights but it doesn’t go any further.

    The flying hand, a welcome message and the touch the android to begin.

    I can’t skip it. I can only choose to change the language.

    Any ideas?

    @Cresley Still stuck at the droid? You need to tap each corner clockwise starting from the upper left.

    @olivier hmmm not sure :\ You might have to reflash and and redo all the RPMScript steps

    Hi and a big thanks Beau. I nearly chucked the zenithink in the bin before I found this site! Its now soooo much better, but…

    did the whole rpmscript install, went a bit pear shaped at the end, with the reboot (option 5), just crashed and rebooted itself. Then it did the whole emulator start up thingy, so followed step 10 and put my androidid in from the emulator, but market wont run, keeps saying Server unavailable. Please try again later. Checked gmail and all the other apps seem to load and work fine, went back in installed the C,E,F,G,H,J,k,N and its all good. But market wont play ball. Will I have to run the androidid emulator again?

    @neo3670 It seems like a few people can’t connect to the market after following this. I’ll have a look into it and try to replicate the problem. I’m sure this topic has come up over on the xda forums.

    I did all the step again and it finally worked but I can’t download from the market. It says “downloading failed” and that with or without the market enabler.
    Does someone have the same issue?

    @olivier
    Me too, I can run the market application but a message telling “Download of APPLICATION_NAME_HERE was unsuccessful”. I clean the cache of Download Manager, Google Apps and other actions suggested in Google forum and nothing works.

    Michel, Market does not work in Spanish, I think only English (United States) works so be careful.

I would like to upgrade the firmware to 0827, as mine is 0818. Can you please send me the most detailed, step by step instructions?

    Hello (zt180 0827)
    Thanks a lot for this website it helps a lot.
    So I found the solution of “Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server”
    After doing several time generate androidid and so …

    This error is due to i didn’t set the good time and date in my zt180
    I let the date and time wich is go on with factorey (01/01/1970)
    Once you put the correct one it goes on immediatly
    Please put it on your tutorial because it is important

    thanks again and best regards from south of france

    Massive thanks! That worked perfectly i’ve been trying to get market on this darn thing since i bought it! Well done and thanks!

    If i might just ask a question though? Any idea why i can’t see the Kindle on the app store? I’m thinking its probably due to my being in the UK? Any help greatly appreciated :)

    @DaveC
    reply to my own comment lol

    Got market working better (still cant see Kindle!) but can see lots of other previosly missing stuff by running option M on the RPM Script and using Market Enabler to set the Custom operator numeric to 23410. This gives an improved market with pretty pictures and more apps.

    However, still can’t access Kindle :-/ any one help?

    Check your AndroidID if it is not valid then you will get that message.

    @DaveC
    Kindle, Nook and some applications are not visible currently in app store, this is an issue in forums (Google, Android and others). A workaround could be a manual installation.

    First off, we all extremely appreciate your tutorial. Very easy to follow. I just have a couple quick questions…Mine shipped with firmware 830, which I’m told is the same almost as 827, however I never had any issues with the wireless having to be disabled/re-enabled until I updated the wireless driver (I know, I should have left well enough alone). Is there a way to roll back the driver to prior to performing the Optional settings? Will I have to reflash the 830 firmware and set everything up again? Do you know where I can get a hold of 830?
    Lastly, I don’t really like the Nexus startup animation, is there a way to roll that back also? Or change it to the Magic 1.5 animation with the Androids poking their heads up (I like that one) or other?

    @Devlin
    I solved my own issues. Apparently firmware 927 is out now, and flashing to that restored the original Android boot animation, as well as fixed my wireless issue. Wireless works right at bootup now with no crashes on startup.

    Hey Devlin, could you tell me where you found the firmware update for the Zt 180? The links above in posts regarding don’t seem to work. I to am having the same issues you did and could use any help you could lend. Thanks man.

    @olivier
    Because you have to install a special system image
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7799319&postcount=356

    And don’t forgive to set your date and time when you will have to activate market on the zt180
