HTC Sensation – Slow mobile data speeds?

June 12th, 2011

So I’ve had the HTC Sensation for nearly a week now and I’ve noticed a slight speed issue when it comes to mobile 3G data. I don’t think it’s network latency as my Nexus S, which is on the same network, loads web pages almost 3 times faster. Even when the Sensation is connected to HSDPA the speeds are below average.

Because of these slow speeds I’ve been experiencing network errors while browsing the Android Market and also timeouts in other apps like XDA & Foursquare. There is the odd time where the Sensation has a blast of acceleration which makes me wonder if it’s a antenna issue and not the radio rom.

There is a thread over at xda-developers that talks about this data latency (and apparently offers a fix) but I can honestly say this did not work for me. If anything has made mine slower. What are your mobile data speeds like on your Sensation?

Phone info & settings:

HTC Sensation Z710E (HBOOT 1.17.0008 S-ON)
Carrier: Optus UMTS 900/2100
APN: yesinternet
Network mode: GSM/WCDMA auto
Ciphering: ON

Actually, the last week I’ve noticed lots of problems with Optus too. Slowdowns and no data even with full 3G signal. Perhaps its just optus’s problem.
